Our Story

The Golden Barley Hotel opened in August 1939, on the eve of World War II. Built by Tooth & Co. on a new site as a modern replacement for the old Enmore Hotel, its distinctive nautical style and wedge shaped corner block have made it a stunning inter-war Art Deco landmark.

Upon opening, the barley faced wartime beer shortages for for a time, only served Reschs on tap. Today we offer a wide range of beers, but Reschs remains a timeless favourite.

The Barley is an independent hotel, owned and operated by a close knit group of family and friends for over 35 years. Our ethos centred around providing the best food and drink experience, friendly service, and a welcoming space for our diverse inner west community. We take pride in being an active part of the community, supporting local schools, sporting teams and charities.
